Image of proposed biophilic development in Croydon

Woodland Way

Strata Design  worked with OB Architecture on a biophilic focussed residential development in the London Borough of Croydon.

Inspired by the adjoining Foxley Wood nature reserve, Woodland Way visually links to its surroundings through a rich diversity of plant species. Native hedgerows and plants, flowering lawns and woodland wildflowers aim to provide food, pollen and shelter for myriad fauna and woodland invertebrates while promoting health, wellbeing and sustainability.

The scheme includes other feel-good factors such as a residents’ amenity area reflecting the wooded character of the site and scalloped edges that evoke woodland glades and rides. Informal play is woven into the site with pockets of activity including log seating, balance beams, stepping and jumping logs. Accessible communal areas with benches and space to barbecue encourage gathering and socialising. A bound gravel circulation path provides a stable yet naturalistic surface reminiscent of forest pat.
